JUDGES & OFFICIALS REGISTRATION PAGE!

Welcome.  Thank you for volunteering to serve as a Judge or Official for the 2010 Vermont Odyssey of the Mind Tournament.  It takes well over 120 dedicated volunteers to run the tournament.  The teams have spent many hours preparing their creative solutions to this years problems, and the tournament serves as an end point and a reward for their hard work.  It is important that all the teams are judged fairly.  Mistakes sometimes do happen, but we try to minimize them through training.

Some of you may have been nominated by Teams. Each team is required to supply at least one volunteer to serve as a Judge or Official at the State Tournament.

JUDGES OFFICIALS

Judges work as a member of a team to evaluate the performance of a team in the Long-Term, Style, or Spontaneous portion of an Odyssey of the Mind competition. Each individual Judge is responsible for only a limited number of items to evaluate. Judges work as a member of a team, alongside experienced Problem Captains and Head Judges. Judges usually are able to select the problem they are most interested in, or will be assigned a problem if they do not have a preference.

Judges must be 18 yrs old or older and attend training to be certified to judge at a sanctioned tournament.

Judges have some flexibility in choosing an assignment, depending upon their desires, experience, and the tournament need.

A number of non-judging Officials are required for each Odyssey of the Mind tournament. While these volunteers do not judge teams, they do perform a variety of important functions, which include:

  • Timekeeper

  • Doorkeeper

  • Score Checker

  • Score Runner

  • Information Desk

  • Souvenir Sales

Officials (those not Judging) should register online, then report to the Odyssey Information desk at the Champlain Valley Union High School by ~8:00AM on Saturday, March 6th, 2010. You will be assigned a task based upon the needs of the Tournament Directors.

Descriptions of judging positions is located here.

Synopses of the current-year Long-Term problems are found here.

All volunteers (judges and non-judging officials) will be provided with a t-shirt, lunch,
and all the creativity they can handle.
Bring a friend and double the fun.
